Last April, Nintendo released their new handheld game console, Nintendo DSi. The new console, which is an evolution of the DS Lite, features two digital cameras that can be used for several games as well as a regular camera. This new product also offers access to an online store, Nintendo DSi Shop, to access downloadable games. The company attempts to create with the inclusion of the cameras a more interactive, personalized and intuitive experience for the consumers that rather to play in a handheld game console.
In the U.S Nintendo set a new record in sales with the DS consoles during April 2009. The company sold more than 827,000 DSi units plus another 215,000 DS Lite units, a total of 1.04 Million units sold in one country, in just one month; a number in sales per month that no other video-game platform has ever accomplished.
Even though the Wii console maintains the first place over the product line of home consoles ever created by any company, the Nintendo DS product line is the most successful one, achieving a number of 30 million DS units sold in the U.S.
