Nintendo's Strategic Planning: "The Gaming Population Expansion"

"Blue Oceans" is the new strategy of Nintendo to try to expand the target demographics of their products. It is named "Blue Oceans", because of the vast number of people who do not play video games, and that are the new potential customers that the company wants to reach through different technologic alternatives. With new interactive and intuitive hardware, such as the stylus in the DS and DSi consoles, and the motion controls in the Wii, Nintendo makes it easier for new players to be engaged by the video game world.
By creating different games that allow people to learn a new language, exercise their brains, practice yoga or train their bodies from home, Nintendo plans to accomplish its goal to reach inexperienced gamers. As an example of video games that clearly attempts to provide entertainment for a large range of people, Nintendo released Wii Fit in 2008. This video game can be easily used by any of the family members to monitor their physical condition. It also provides a virtual trainer who advises the gamer to follow an appropriate workout from home. And lastly, the Wii Fit also offers yoga sessions in an enjoyable manner while connected to the internet.
